It all started with the paper mill. For centuries, it has been located on the small river island near the main station – hence the current name of the area. The mill was followed in 1882 by the first Globus department store, „Bazaar without Borders“. In 1960 a temporary building was built, which Globus moved into until the completion of their department store at Löwenplatz. Originally intended for demolition after seven years, the structure remained as a testament to unexpected permanence. By celebrating the 100th birthday of Globus Flussbad, we seek to understand how the Provisorium has stood the test of time and extract meaningful lessons from its enduring history.
